Honda’s all-new 11th-generation Civic, all-new for 2022, was launched late last year without the Civic LX sedan and hatchback, the two cheapest models. In 2023, the Civic Sport was the base model, but it cost more and had nicer black-painted wheels than the LX. Honda raised the Civic’s base price to the Sport’s level by eliminating the LX, surpassing its competitors’ lowest prices.
Car and Driver and Honda both say that the LX will be brought back to life in 2023. Honda learned that customers missed the basic trim level, which we understand has long been one of the Civic’s most popular variants, though the mid-level Sport has become more popular in recent years. Since the last generation of the Civic, the Sport model has been by far the most popular.
Along with the return of the Civic LX, the CR-V trim level LX is also coming back. (The newest CR-V, which came out in 2023, skipped the LX model and went straight to the higher-end EX.) By offering models below the Civic Sport and CR-V EX, both Hondas lower their entry prices.
The 2023 Civic LX sedan undercuts the four-door Sport by $1,600 at $24,545. That’s cheaper than the LX was before Honda discontinued it, but it’s still welcome. The Civic LX hatchback is also coming back. It costs $25,545—$1,400 less than the Civic Sport hatchback models.
As before, these Civic LXs will have no split-folding rear seat, steel wheels with hubcaps instead of aluminum wheels, and bare plastic steering wheels without the Sport’s leather wrapping.

Moreover, what’s up with the CR-V?
All-wheel drive adds $1,500 to the base price of the CR-V EX, which is still $32,905. Since the LX starts at $29,505, which is $3,200 less than the EX, this makes it a great deal. Again, AWD costs an extra $1,500. Honda hasn’t specified the differences between the LX and EX CR-Vs, but expect the latter’s sunroof and aluminum wheels to go. Base-level CR-Vs have traditionally had steel wheels with or without hubcaps and no sunroof, leather steering wheel, or other trim differences.
